REV-X ZINC Oil Additive is essential for new engines with flat tappet cams and lifters. It ensures proper break-in and long-lasting performance. When heated, ZINC (ZDDP) forms a protective anti-wear layer on cams, lifters, and crankshafts. This prevents metal-to-metal contact and extends component life.
You can also use ZINC in any vehicle from the 1980s or older that relies on ZDDP in its engine oil. Mix two fl. oz. of ZINC with six quarts of oil to reach 3200 ppm, ideal for new engine break-in. For engines already broke-in, add one fl. oz. to achieve 1500–1800 ppm. This provides extra protection and prolongs engine life.

How Does ZINC (ZDDP) Work in Engine Oil?
As REV X ZINC Oil Additive (ZDDP) is heated, it creates a film that coats the engine parts with an anti-wear layer. Think of it as a sacrificial layer that will wear away, preventing the wear on your vital engine parts. As the name suggests, ZINC benefits flat tappet motors with a flat lifter.
When the engine runs, the cam lobe is in constant contact with the tappets’ flat surface. Simultaneously, this creates high temperatures due to the friction between the two. If the protective film produced by the ZDDP were not present. This heat and friction would wear away at the lifters and cam, leading to engine failure.
Is this only for Engines?
REV-X ZINC oil additive only adds an anti-wear layer; it is not the best option after a new engine break-in. To reduce friction, lower component temperatures, and clean your entire oil system. You should use either REV X High-Performance Oil Treatment or REV X High-Performance Racing Oil Treatment.
