Fix DOD & AFM Lifters Before They Seize

D.O.D & A.F.M Lifters

Displacement on Demand (D.O.D), Active Fuel Management (A.F.M), or automotive variable displacement is a technology that turns off half the cylinders in an engine to improve fuel economy in most GM or Dodge gasoline-powered engines.

GM has approved two processes for removing the lifter when stuck in the bore. Use vice grips with a slide hammer, or use vice grips with a small pry bar.

Metal Shavings in Your Engine!

These engines use a hydraulic system to engage and disengage lifters for better fuel economy.  Inevitably these lifters will get coated with a think varnish or sludge.  This “coking” of the lifters is due in part to extended oil change intervals, incorrectly aditized oils, and excessive heat.  Once the lifters become unstable, your engine will become noisy with increased chatter and ticking.

If left untreated, the lifters can eventually become unstable and, in extreme cases, rotate in their bore, turning the roller bearing into a chisel that will shave your camshaft like it’s on a lathe.  In other cases, the rattling will cause the lifter bore to increase and not allow the lifter to disengage, leading to misfires and possible seizures.

According to General Motors, if a lifter seizure occurs in the block, it will require a pair of vice grips and a slide hammer or pry bar to remove them.  If the seizure does occur, it can deposit fine metal shavings into your engine, oil filter, and oil pump from the camshaft.  Once it reaches this point, there is probably no saving your engine. You will either need a new engine or rebuild it, costing you thousands of dollars.

How Does REV X Fix It?

The best fix for anything is preventing it in the first place! REV X High-Performance Oil Additive will help prevent catastrophic engine failure in these engines. If the lifters have not rotated or seized, it will fix the lifters by removing the sludge, varnish, and build up in the lifter and bore that leads to mechanical failure. Most of the time, they are fixed within the first 500 miles of driving, if not sooner, with just one treatment. It will also add our proprietary friction reducer to eliminate any further wear to treated parts; protecting your engine and giving you peace of mind for the long haul. No other additive or synthetic oil on the market combines the organic detergent and friction reduction properties that REV X High-Performance Oil Additive does.
